A/V Production with Optical Cables by Corning (updated 12/2013)

Optical Cables by Corning unleash the brilliance of light to connect computers and peripherals at speeds up to 5 Gb/s through USB, up to 10 Gb/s through Thunderbolt™ technology, or up to 20GB/s through ThunderboltTM 2 technology. Utilizing cutting-edge optical fiber technology, they can maintain that speed over much longer distances than traditional copper cable. Optical Cables by Corning are thin, light, and remarkably tough. They can be bent, squeezed, and tangled.

When compared with traditional copper connections, the choice is clear — Optical Cables by Corning are longer, tougher, thinner, and lighter. The future of device connectivity flows through Optical Cables by Corning.

Useful Tools for Editors
If you read my Notes From the 2014 Editors Retreat post then you might have seen the mention of a session called Gearheads. This was a fun session where attendees were asked to submit some piece of gear they like or find useful. This could be hardware, software, an app, anything really. I though the Gearheads submissions would make for a great Useful Tools for Editors entry. Here’s some that I made note of.
Did FCPX 10.1 Update Break Premiere Pro CC?

After days of having issues with Premiere Pro CC I reached out to the Moving to Adobe Premiere Pro Facebook community. My industry friend and Trainer, Jason Cox  and I figured my out my recent update to FCPX 10.1 may have broken Premiere Pro and note I said may have.

After running Premiere Pro CC for two years without major issues I decided to include FCPX in my arsenal of NLE's updating to the current version 10.1. After that, the sluggish Premiere Pro CC began. Without getting to too many technical mojo I discovered in Activity Monitor an error Adobe QT32 Server (Not Responding) and so began the search to figure out the problem.

The short of it, installing FCPX on top of Premiere Pro caused some Codec issues for me. As you will see in my screen shots after deleting a few files in Library/Quicktime and Library/Video in my Mac, the error Adobe QT32 Server (Not Responding) is now gone it's just Adobe QT32 Server as it should.

It was recommended by Adobe support to add the files back one at a time, but for now I'm keeping them out.

Finally, I've since removed FCPX and Premiere Pro CC from system reinstalling Premiere Pro to get work done. Things are working look they should. Until things can be figured out on my end, I have to keep FCPX out or on a separate system.

Thanks to the FCPX and Adobe Communities for helping resolve my particular issue.

Congrats to Alexis Van Hurkman on the follow up to the Color Correction Handbook. Here's a quick blurb and you can link out and get the second edition.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter (@hurkman) probably know that, among other things, I’ve been working on the second edition of my now three-year-old Color Correction Handbook, updating it to account for new developments in our industry, and expanding it to include topics that were not previously covered. What you didn’t know was that I added too much to be contained within a single volume. After a bit of reorganizing and even more writing, I’m proud to announce that Peachpit Press is now releasing TWO books, in both print and electronic form— - See more at:
